New route for Styrkeprøven 2024

Styrkeprøven is now in a good working process with the road authorities to discuss changes to the event and during November the formal application from Styrkeprøven will be sent to the road authorities for processing .

In recent years, there have been a number of challenges in getting the Styrkeprøven event approved by the road authorities. This means that we, as the organiser, are now part of a good working process with the road authorities to discuss changes to the event. These changes are probably needed in order for us to be able to get the necessary permits to arrange. During November, the formal application from Styrkeprøven will be sent to the road authorities for processing.

We are sure that Styrkeprøven will be carried out on Saturday 15. June 2024 with the first start from Trondheim at 04:00. There will also be starts from Lillehammer and Eidsvoll on the same day, but no more start locations.

Registration for the rides opens on 1. November 2023. Note that Styrkeprøven now guarantees that the starting fee will be refunded if the event does not receive the necessary permits from the road authorities and must be canceled before the day of the event.

Those who will notice the biggest change on the route are our participants from Trondheim. From Trondheim, the same route as in 2023 is followed until Hjerkinn on Dovrefjell (approx. 167 km). Immediately after passing the road’s highest point above Dovrefjell, participants must take the E6 and follow county road 29 to Folldal (approx. 196 km). After Folldal, participants must follow county road 27 in the direction of Atnsjøen and Enden. At Enden, the trip continues over Venabygdsfjellet to Ringebu (approx. 281 km).

This means that the participants from Trondheim must first pass over Dovrefjell at 1026 m above sea level. They must then climb up to the highest point on the road above Venabygdsfjell at 1060 m above sea level. This makes the ride somewhat more challenging and demanding, but at the same time it will be on roads with considerably less traffic than the stretch from Dombås to Ringebu. In addition, it must be taken into account that the stretch from Folldal to Ringebu will give the participants a beautiful spectacle of Norwegian nature and mountains!

After Ringebu, the participants will follow the E6 as in 2023 to Tretten. From Tretten, the E6 will no longer be used, but the same route as in recent years: Granrudmoen via Hunderfossvegen to Jørstadmoen and Vingnes.

From Vingnes, the participants will now return to the route that was last used in 2019, namely on the west side of Mjøsa. Thus, the places Vingrom, Biri, Gjøvik, Skreia and Feiring will be passed before everyone is at Minnesund.

Those taking part in the Lillehammer – Oslo race must of course also follow the same route on the west side of Mjøsa.

From Minnesund, we follow the same route as in 2023 all the way to the Lindeberg/Frogner area. In 2024, it will be to follow Trondheimsveien through Frogner to Skedsmokorset. From Skedsmokorset, participants must follow Solbergveien to Slattum before going up to Gjelleråsen. From Gjelleråsen there is highway 4 to Grorud.

Styrkeprøven has for 2024 entered into an agreement on a new target area for the three races Trondheim-Oslo, Lillehammer-Oslo and Eidsvoll-Oslo. The new target area is Grorud Flerbrukshus, which is located by Grorud sports park. The area is large and has good opportunities to create a great framework for the income in our rides. Parking is also possible, but also a short distance to public transport such as the subway, train and bus.

See the entire route from Trondheim here.

With new routes, the distances for the rides are also somewhat shorter:

Trondheim – Oslo: 520 km
Lillehammer – Oslo: 179 km
Eidsvoll – Oslo: 61 km

End of the team competition

It is no secret that the road authorities have had major objections to the team competition and previous record pools in Styrkeprøven . The road authorities have therefore for several years wished to have these pools removed from both Trondheim and Lillehammer. We have had to do that for 2024 in order to even have the opportunity to organize the Styrkeprøven tour race.

This means that there will be no form of team competition from either Trondheim or Lillehammer in 2024. There are only tour pools that start in the order that those who expect to spend the shortest time on the distance start first. The pools will be set up so that people from the same club and people who train together will start together.

None of the participants in Styrkeprøven will have the opportunity to use follow-up vehicles or receive other help along the way than that offered by the organiser. In previous years, the fastest teams have had the opportunity to have food boxes transported to certain points along the route, but in 2024 this is not permitted. All participants, regardless of ambition level, must use the food and service stations offered by the organiser. It is still allowed to stop at shops and petrol stations to buy drinks and food, but you cannot receive any kind of assistance from a private car along the route.

Great need for help from volunteers

Styrkeprøven is a large event with a lot of demanding logistics. It requires many people to contribute with effort both in the days before the event and during the event itself. We also need more volunteers to take courses to be able to stand along the route to be either track or stationary guards. These are very important tasks that must be in place for Styrkeprøven to be organised.

Styrkeprøven is therefore organizing an information meeting for volunteers in Sandvika (Bærum) on Wednesday 8. November at 19. We will talk about how we run Styrkeprøven today, which tasks we need help with and what we offer our volunteers and what we expect from them.
