Styrkeprøven has been hacked

Styrkeprøven has been hacked and attempted to be hacked three times in the last few months.

In recent months, our websites have had some operational interruptions and at times have not been accessible from abroad. Much of this is due to the fact that we have been hacked or attempted to be hacked three times. The first time they got in and had a plugin installed, which again opens up the possibility that “they” could upload files to the web server. They used that to spew out 10,000s of emails.

There was a system in place that stopped this traffic, but not before it damaged our reputation. Email security websites flagged us as malware and this prevented those behind a firewall that retrieves such information from accessing our website. We have cleaned this up, but there may be something left behind.

Of course, it didn’t get any better when we were hacked again. We had not been able to close all the access the hackers had. We managed to stop the third attack. By then we had moved the website and had a new server, new installation and better defence.

We are still suffering a little from the clean-ups we have had to undertake. For example, some of our pages are still missing images. We will get this in place over time and develop our pages further.

Styrkeprøven runs on wordpress and such attacks are part of the downside of running a website with wordpress. WP is the world’s largest publishing solution and super easy to use to polish, but since there are so many millions of installations there are also many hackers who use robots and other things to search for and find weaknesses.

In our case, the attackers went straight to the domain wordpress-993154-4033750.cloudwaysapps.com and not to the server it runs on or other servers of our provider. So we have been asked if we have any known “enemies” who can be thought of doing something like this. Since we do not have it, we hope this is accidental and that the attacks will not repeat themselves. But should you discover after some time that we are gone from the network, we may be exposed to a new attack.

If anyone knows of other security websites etc. who have still marked us as malware, we would like to be notified, so we can let them know that we have cleaned it up. In that case, send an e-mail to [email protected]
